Gibraltar Range Overnight Hike

What

An introductory overnight walk following two sections of the Gibraltar range world heritage walk from Coombadjah campground to boundary creek camping at mulligans hut campground. Walk will be on management trails or walking tracks.

This walk will showcase the varied vegetation of the area covering both rainforest, granite heath and hanging swamps. Depending on time there is options for several short side trips to lookouts.

When: 16-17 May 2026

Itinerary

• Saturday
  • Leave Armidale early approx. 0800
  • Drive to Washpool NP, Coombadjah campground
  • Walk to Mulligans hut campground
• Sunday
  • Walk mulligans hut to boundary creek campground
  • Return home

Gear/equipment: - contact Andrew Woolley if you need or want advice or to hire gear from the club. Note there is a limited supply.

Food

• 2 lightweight hiking dinners (1 as a spare)
• Snacks
• 2x lunches
• 1x breakfast
• Utensils
• Bowl/plate
• Cooking equipment – (can be shared or hire can be arranged)

Water

Will be available during walk but may require side trips. There is a tank at mulligans hut campground. Water catchment will be entirely within the national park.  Bring 3 L and some form of purification e.g. chlorine tablets or LifeStraw.

Equipment

• Tent (can share or hire)
• Sleeping bag (can hire)
• Sleeping mat (can hire)
• Warm clothes (jumper, beanie, gloves long clothes to wear to bed)
• Overnight hiking back pack (can hire)
• Rain coat
• Hiking boots or comfortable joggers
• torch

Transport:

As it is a significant drive carpooling is suggested and the plan is to leave early 0800 Saturday morning after meeting at sport UNE. Depending on numbers we will need to take at least 2 cars to enable a car shuffle between start and end locations
