Cathedral Rock Overnight Hike

Cathederal Rock National Park – overnight walk
What
An off-track hiking/bushwalking trip, to a local national park with large granite formations
surrounded by dry sclerophyll forest and heath land which should be full of spring flowers.
Possibilities include
- Exploratory scrambling to the top of granite domes
- Exploring creek lines and hanging swamps
Walk is planned to be mostly off track but can be adjusted depending on participant interest to
include more trail.
Cathederal Rock National Park is an hour east of Armidale and is 2WD accessible.
When: 29-30 of August 2026
Itinerary
- Saturday
o Leave Armidale early approx. 0830 (meeting sport une dirt carpark, near cadet
facility/hockey fields
o Drive to Cathedral rock
o Explore
- Sunday
o walk back to car
o Return home
Gear/equipment: - contact Andrew Woolley if you need or want advice or to hire gear from the
club. Note there is a limited supply.
Food
o 2 lightweight hiking dinners (1 as a spare)
o Snacks
o 2x lunches
o 1x breakfast
o Utensils
o Bowl/plate
o Cooking equipment – (can be shared or hire can be arranged)
Water
Will be available during walk but may require side trips. Water catchment will be entirely within the
national park. Bring 3 L and some form of purification e.g. chlorine tablets or LifeStraw.

Fun-Dress Climbing Night

Fun-Dress Climbing Night - Incorrect Sporting Event
Join UNE Outdoor Adventure Club for a fun social climbing night with a twist: this time, the theme is Incorrect Sporting Event!
Come dressed ready for any sport… except climbing. Tennis player, golfer, swimmer, footy player, cricketer, cyclist... the more incorrect your outfit is for climbing, the better.
The night will include plenty of climbing, social games and challenges, with prizes up for grabs (including Best Costume). Whether you’re a regular climber or just keen to come along for a fun night with the club, all experience levels are welcome.
When: Thursday 10 September, 5:30–8:30 PM
Theme: Incorrect Sporting Event
What to expect: Climbing, games, challenges, prizes and questionable sporting attire...
Come along, get involved and see which sport proves the least practical on the climbing wall!

Gara Gorge End of trimester 2 Celebration - Hike and Picnic

Hi All,
As a bit of an End of Year (trimester 2) Celebration the club would like to invite all members to morning of bouldering and picnic at Gara Gorge Saturday the 12th of September. Catering will be provided with a plan for sandwiches, wraps, salads and snacks. Please advise of any dietary requirements by sending the club a message.
We will plan to head out by 08:30AM to boulder, rock hop, cave and maybe a swim and then hike out to the fortress for lunch around 12:00.
